Interview with Penelope Trunk of Brazen CareeristTell a Friend

If a person has been out of the workplace for quite sometime and they just got a new job, what are some things you recommend they do to get used to there new job environment?

The working environment hasn't changed in a year and being out of work for a year has nothing to do with if a person is or isn't employable. They'll do just fine. It's much easier to be employed than unemployed people generally do much better with structure and organized work with a reward system verses no structure and no reward system. The transition from unemployed to employment is easy if you get the job. People in generally should just stop worrying.

Where do you see the 2011 economy? Do you see the new year attractive for job growth?

People shouldn't worry about the economy or external circumstances. They should focus on the things they can control and be great at that. It doesn't matter if the economy is good or bad you can control how you position yourself in the market, how well your resume is written, how well you interview and that's true of credit as well. Credit is an external factor because if you messed up your credit it has nothing to do with how well you conducted a job search or how much self confidence you should have in a job interview. The most important thing about succeeding at work is focusing on the things on you can control and going great at those things and ignoring everything else.

Do you believe this current administration is doing everything they can to help spur job growth?

I believe this administration is doing everything they can. I think Sarah Palin is a total whack job but if she was in office I would say even she is doing everything she can to help the economy and job growth. If walk around saying "this administration isn't doing everything they can to help with job growth" then that's a victims out look on your situation.

Thanks Penelope
